David Cannon – New Business Account Manager


1. Career history before Reich

After my A levels I joined Sun Alliance, a name some of you will recognise from pre the RSA days.  I worked at their Broker Division for five years as a Claims Handler looking after key broker accounts, then a few years after the merger to the Royal & Sun Alliance I decided to move to RSA’s in-house loss adjusting team and became a Claims Advisor and Surveyor, dealing with all aspects of Property and Household claims, including post loss surveys for High Net Worth clients. 

After a four year period I moved to the Co-Operative Insurance as a Claims Negotiator, dealing with household, Motor, TP injury, EL & PL claims, before joining Reich in 2005

2. Why did you choose to work for Reich?

I really wanted to get into broking; I found the idea of a broker attractive, having worked for one of the UK’s major insurers for some time, I didn’t want to become institutionalised.  So when the opportunity came up to join one of the UK’s largest independent insurance brokers I didn’t hesitate and haven’t looked back since.

3. Your career within Reich

Having joined the group I started as a Claims Handler, which progressed into a number of roles including Senior Claims Handler and Senior Technical Claims Handler, dealing with a variety of claims for key clients including Property, Motor, all aspects of Commercial claims also including, EL, PL and Property Owners Liability.

I also developed a niche for handling VIP clients, including Reich High Net Worth clients and later became our dedicated Claim Specialist for all aspects of Healthcare.

More recently my role as a Claims Executive allowed me to develop client relationships, and attend client meetings and face-to-face meetings.  I have also been one of the founding members of the Reich G10, have chaired the group on four separate occasions and currently chair the group, focusing on vital key projects, including a group re-branding exercise, the complete redevelopment and build of the group's new website and social media development.  Other key projects include the introduction and implementation of the Reich Employee Benefits package, staff engagement and various charity events promoting our Corporate and Social Responsibility stance.

I have  successfully moved to our Commercial team, initially taking on the role of Commercial Account Manager, then moving to New Business Account Manager.

4. What’s the best thing about working for Reich?

I enjoy the variety of my role and the fact I have been given the opportunity to develop skills above and beyond my job description within the G10.  I take great pride in what I do and do care about our service proposition, which is all about providing the best possible service to all our clients.

The business portrays professionalism, but has a ‘family’ culture, where hard work and loyalty are recognised and rewarded.  Young talent is nurtured and there are opportunities to flourish and succeed.

Loyalty is one of my core values, having now worked for Reich for over 10 years.

5. Where do you see your future within Reich?

Short term I look forward to working with our Commercial clients, developing my skills and understanding of the ‘broking’ side of the business to a senior level.  I continue to promote the importance and influence the G10 can have on the business and look forward to the future opportunities given to the G10.  Long term, who knows? As long as I feel I have given my best then I can achieve job satisfaction.
